Botanical Art Techniques Classes

with Gilly Shaeffer

 

Gilly Shaeffer’s paintings have been selected to appear in juried international exhibitions of botanical art throughout the United States. Gilly is a graduate of master botanical art instructor, Anne Marie Evans’ Watercolor Program from the New York Botanical Gardens. She has taught Botanical Watercolor Techniques for Otis College of Art and Design and gives private lessons at her home studio.  Gilly is the recent past president of the Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California from 1999 to 2005.  Her work can be viewed at gillyshaeffer.com.

 

Since a good drawing is the foundation for a good painting, this will be a great opportunity for beginners and intermediate students to perfect their drawing skills and understanding through exercises and techniques presented in the classes. A white oriental lily will be the subject as students cover the fundamentals of botanical illustration. Gilly will use a cumulative approach while addressing the individual needs of students. This series will also offer an introduction to botany for artists by Tania Marien, biologist, guest speaker from Artplantae.com. For best learning results, she recommends that the entire six classes be taken in sequential order.  The skills and understanding gained through these classes can be applied when doing all types of painting or drawing.

 

One two day workshop per month from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fee:  Full Series (3 sets of classes) $300 for current members and $330 for non-members.

(5% discount is given if full series is taken).

 

Each two-day session is $100 current members or $110. non-members.

One Day workshops are $75.00 for members and $85.00 for non-members.

 

Please call for reservation.  Deadline to sign up for each two day session is one week before the class begins. Space is limited to 14 students.  A list of materials is available upon registration.
