Sculptures, such as seen in Virginia Robinson’s own garden, are intended for outdoor spaces to provide character as well as add cohesiveness to the landscape. As Lynette will explain, a garden is an outdoor room, no matter how large. Garden sculpture softens the pure symmetry of a classical garden space; also, it can be used to add whimsy as well as definition. Garden sculpture can be utilitarian, or it can be purely decorative. Sculptures can be used to tell a story as seen in classical gardens where mythological figures are depicted. An example of this at the Virginia Robinson Gardens is the figure of Neptune at the base of the Italian Terrace Garden. Lynette will share the excitement of creating the modern garden through the wise choice of pieces and placements. Lynette was born in Perth, Australia into a designing family. Her parents were master builders and she studied architecture. She began collecting garden antiques while living in Switzerland. She has cultivated master artisans who hand carve Vicenza stone as well as finds exceptional examples of classical European 17th to 19th century garden and landscape ornaments. |
