There are many grand and glorious estates in Beverly Hills but a few offer such beauty and elegance as does the VIRGINIA ROBINSON GARDENS.

The garden’s six and a half acres are divided into five areas.  Each area is significant by itself, but as a whole, they are a testament to a talented and unique lady, Virginia Catherine Robinson.  Mrs. Robinson was a gracious lady with a green thumb and the vision to turn barren hillsides into the elegant gardens we view today.

We pass through the main residence to enter the gardens.  The first garden we see is the formal MALL GARDEN.  It has the character of an English-walled garden, complete with perennial borders, manicured lawns, statuary and a vista which evokes feelings of a bye-gone era.  The walkway leads to a lawn-flanked swimming pool that is a jewel sitting at the steps of the Pool Pavilion.  Built in 1924, by architect William Richards, the building blends Palladian and eighteenth-century Italian architectural influences.

To the west of the central Mall is the ITALIAN TERRACE GARDEN, offering brilliant views of specimen trees including giant Italian Cypress.  We slowly descend into this garden following brick pathways.  Along the way there is the constant sound and sight of wonderfully restored water features.

To the east of the center Mall, the world renowned TROPICAL PALM GARDEN has the largest collection of Australian King Palm in the continental United States.  It is also the home of a large collection of ferns, a ginger grove and other tropical plants.

The ROSE GARDEN is on the east side of the pool pavilion and displays an abundant collection of Old English Roses and hybrid-T roses.  Its charm lies in the intimacy of the setting.

Last on the tour is the KITCHEN GARDEN.  Herbs and vegetables are planted in an area reminiscent of a French potager.  Ease of access allows the Cordon Blue Chef to use fresh produce from the garden in preparation of all the meals at the estate.  A small greenhouse in this garden assures a constant rotation of blooming orchids into the main residence.

The VIRGINIA ROBINSON GARDENS and home may be viewed by appointment only.  The house is furnished with the artifacts collected by the Robinson family from around the world.  Both the gardens and home are available for tour by appointment Tuesday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
